Types of curses:

Generational

The most common curses that people are dealing with in their lives are generational, or inherited curses. The Bible says in Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.  KJV The word iniquity in the Hebrew is avon and it means punishment of iniquity.  So, these curses carry the punishment for the sins of the forefathers.

Spoken

Proverbs 18:21 says Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. KJV An example of a spoken curse could be as simple as a doctor giving someone six months to live.  They believe the doctor and begin to tell others they only have six months to live.  This curse was not a deliberate action, but is a curse none the less.  Sometimes parents are guilty of speaking failure over their children.  Saying things like "You'll never amount to anything" or "Your a bad kid" "you can't stay out of trouble" "You cant do anything right"  Matthew 12:36 Jesus said But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. KJV Parents, be careful what you are speaking over your children. The fact of the matter is that words carry power. This is why occult practices such as witchcraft require incantations.

Self-imposed

Self-imposed curses are words we speak over ourselves.  We can have what we speak, good or bad. Example: Someone makes a mistake and says something like, "Duh! I'm such an idiot" or "I can't do anything right" "My dad was right, I'll never amount to anything" Charles Capps once said "if Jesus came to your church and said you can have whatever you say, half the church would drop dead for saying that tickles me to death" Things I have heard people say about themselves makes me shudder.  While visiting a church in another state, I heard someone say "my diabetes"  I've heard a popular radio personality say over and over "My bad back"  Remember Jesus and the fig tree? Read Matthew 21:19
